Dear Friends -

We have some questions. We need some help. The background is that in doing research ...I just finished reading posts on bumble foot -- and it sounds like our 5 month old Magpie may have it based on the descriptions I just read.

There is a small (pin head) black mark on the top of the lump which could be the scab I have read about in the posts. After soaking the feet in epsom salt we sprayed neosporin on it. Placed him back in the duck house to rest (with the other 4 ducks).
  1. I have read you have to "prick" it?
  2. How do you prick or cut it? (Or, open it?)
  3. With what? (Prick it with tweezers?)
  4. Also, how do we wrap the webbed foot?
  5. and with what do we wrap it?
  6. Finally, what type of antibiotic (liquid?) do we need to find?
  7. Also, what causes bumblefoot? (Read staph infection in foot - but from what ?)
  8. Is it contagious?
  9. Does it return?
  10. After treating, should we keep up the epsom salts and wrapping for a while?
Thank you for your support and help - we appreciate all duck community. We have fallen head over webbed feet in love with them. Your good insights help us be better at raising them...and they are healthier and happier. Cheers!
