Ganders are pretty noisy actually, just not constantly. Since they are out of season they tend to act like they disapprove of mating behavior among the ducks and announce it loudly. If I talk to them out of the windows or go into the yard they honk. As far as I know there aren’t any huge differences in their voices. The only reason I know mine are male is that I haven’t gotten any eggs, and I’ve seen them try and mate the ducks. And they are not nearly as noisy as roosters
