I knew my Muscovy duck was sitting on eggs, but not too sure when she set them and guested they would hatch on or around the 27th April. On Tuesday 21 when my husband went to let the hens out of the hen house, he was greeted by 5 little ducklings and a hissing mum. I went to inspect her nest and found an egg stone cold lying on the floor outside the nest and 7 eggs still in the nest almost cold, but thought I would put them in my incubator with the chicken eggs that were due to hatch on the 27th, in truth I didn't think the duck eggs had any hope of hatching, but on Wednesday morning one of the duck eggs started to crack, so I made a big decision to take all the eggs off the cradle 2 days early, not knowing how this will effect the hatching success of the bantam chicken eggs, by Wednesday evening we had 4 beautiful, healthy little ducklings and on day 19 the chicks have started to peep.

I'm glad you joined our "flock!"

Congratulations on the hatched ducklings! I hope the bantams hatch well, too.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your ducklings, I bet they are super cute :love I'm sure your bantams will be fine stopping turning them a couple of days early should not be a problem, the first 2 weeks are most critical for embryos as this is when all there parts develop, the turning helps them develop in the correct position.

Wishing you the very best of luck. Enjoy those new babies and BYC :frow

You certainly made the right decision -

so glad the ducklings hatched. Mama ducks and chickens, tend to get caught up with the first ones that hatch and ignore the ones that haven't.

So far so good, I have 2 supper little Pekin chicks have hatched and they are all fluffed up. A number of the other eggs have now started to hatch. I tried to take some pictures of the ducklings, but they just wouldn't stop moving.

It's now day 20 and 14 of the 40 Pekin eggs have successfully hatched with more on the way, so I'm very happy to have saved the 4 duckling eggs left by the mother to go cold in the nest.
