Duck eggs under chicken

I have had 2 chickens share a nest one year I had 6 hens 2 on each nest they actually did great one was more the mama the other like a big sister/Aunt. No fighting or anything. Not sure if it always works that way though, these were my bantams hen and they are about like Silkies they will sit on anything matter of fact my Bantam Lavender Orp is sitting on nothing.

Hey, another option would be get some Society Finches. They will sit, hatch and raise anything in an egg. Of course a duck egg is bigger than they are so they might have a hard time staying on top.

You guys are great. Love reading your advice. I don't have an incubator and the duck eggs are at day 25 so they only have a little time until hatching. I think I might just see how things play out and keep a close eye on things making sure the eggs are covered at all times. They are getting along great in the nest box together no fighting at all for the moment. I may try and separate the eggs tomorrow and see if each one will sit in two separate nest boxes.

Well I noticed today that one duck is pecking through its shell. So excited to see this little duck hatch. I am hoping my broody hens are good with it. I keep checking on it every half hour. I have three eggs I hear one of the other ones pecking but not the third I hope it is ok and still alive.

Great to hear! Please post a pic when your little ones hatch!

It might be a bit late but what you do is go in the middle of the night when they are asleep abd change them so that they are on two different best because I have had this happen before and what ended up happening was in they broke the eggs and nothing hatched and they haven't laid for ages so to save it from happening grab on in the middle of the night and then put it in a different nest and have fun with it :)

I have several eggs that i think are about 14-15 eggs under two mallard females with a khaki drake ..the females seem like they are doing well taking turns leaving the nest and this morning i noticed an egg in the water...the egg was opened and definitely a well formed embryo in the egg. I imagine it is like nature and there was probably something wrong with it..I also have several duck eggs under a very broody chicken...Ok my question is..do i need to separate the khaki drake when the eggs hatch? i have heard that some drakes will kill the offspring . also I am totally new to hatching of any kind so will my chicken care for the duck off-spring? when do I remove the babies from the mothers?? Is there anything special that i need to do? prior to hatching? we are having 50 degree nights are they going to need heat at night?? and 80's during the day..also..can i put the offspring together, once the mothers decide it is time to kick them out the door??
thanks so much for any input and am getting excited about our first natural hatching.
ps i don't have an incubator to put them in ..
