Duck eggs

New to hatching. So 2 ducks eggs. First one pipped 28 hours ago. When I got home from work this am it was not moving. Or breathing or anything. So I called it dead. I took it out. There was a yolk still attached . But pretty small. What did I do wrong.

Egg 2 is pipped on the wrong end. But is chirping and progressing. What are you thoughts

Sorry for your egg loss. I am pretty new to chickens, know nothing about ducks but to NOT give them bread at the park. Let me tag @WVduckchick for their assistance.
