A roofed run is great, you won't regret it. A big overhang, like a meter on all sides will help keep the rain from blowing or splashing in. Make sure raccoons ect can't get in. I have family that lives on San Juan island (9 miles from Victoria) and they have had eagles, ravens, fox, raccoons weasels kill their birds.
