Duck experts needed...

I was thinking of doing the injectable orally actually. It is what i use for my goats but they get it injected, and I can inject the duck if I need to but I try not to do that if not necessary. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/durvet-hi-level-vitamin-b-complex

But upon reading I am seeing that the brewers yeast has b vitamins in it...so I don't want to over do it and it seems the easier route. I would most likely just pop the pill down his throat in pieces vs putting it in water.

Another question....is it even possible to be from niacin deficiency at his age? Everything I see says in ducklings...he's 6 months old.

Not sure I would use the injectable unless a vet told me to do it. Given that he was treated twice with Tylan makes me think that maybe the swelling in his leg and the pneumonia might be from a mycoplasma infection. Is there any chance you could take him to a vet?

Thanks Kathy-I decided to go with the Brewers yeast...just need a dosage. A vet is not economically possible or plausible, hence why I came on here.( this is not my duck and I just spent 600.00 today on my dogs)

I use Denagard for mycoplasma...this was not it.

The rule of thumb has been a tablespoon brewer's yeast per cup of food.

I reckon that 6 months is a bit old, but B vitamins are not going to hurt and may help.

And yes, you need to do some other stuff as well - when a vet isn't possible, I feel we need to try our best. And maybe some opportunity to get to a vet will open up for you.

Thanks @Amiga I appreciate your help. I'll start the brewers yeast in the morning and deworm him as well...I'll let you guys know if he improves at all...

@casportpony I stand corrected....upon further research it appears it *could* have been mycoplasma...but I don't think so. My question is this...why would he have been limping from a young age? Also, I forgot to mention he got the pneumonia after he had been bathing in colder weather. (he is used to being indoors and they were trying to acclimate him to being outside, and it was colder than normal that day for what he was used to)

I hope everyone realizes I am just trying to trouble shoot...not disregard any answers I get. I appreciate any and all input.

So, any idea how many tablets per day of 1,000 mg tablets? I went ahead and gave him one in a drench today...but I'd like to know how much per day. I don't have the powder...but I put the pill in my coffee grinder and added the powder to the water and used a syringe to get it down him.

What is the name of the tablet you are using and how many mg of niacin does one tablet contain?
