Duck experts needed...

So you think it's a Niacin deficiency Cathy? Or what? I feed a layer that's 16% protein and my ducks do fine on it and they don't free range?

Some pictures of the affected leg would also be helpful.

Oooh I think you misunderstood me. I don't have any problem with mine and was just saying mine do fine on the feed they are on. Sorry for the confusion :D

Diets high in calcium, like layer feed, can cause gout, so probably best to switch him to something with less calcium.

So just to help everyone out in the future....I did the math on the injectable bcomplex. If a ducks daily requirement is 55 mg of niacin...each ml of bcomplex contains 100 mg of niacin so...I rounded it out to 1/2 cc a day. I know this doesn't include whats in the feed...so I will have to check on that but I'd say at least 1/4 cc daily would be fine. Here is a link to the bcomplex

Ok, so of course the niacin on the feed isn't listed in mg or any type of measurement soooo I have asked a question on TSC website. Anyway, here is "Sis" (very boyishly said lol) The second pic shows size difference in the legs. The third shows the scab from a sore/bumblefoot? that we cleaned all out and is no longer a sore...if you take the scab off it is all healthy tissue underneath and no longer warm to the touch. When they originally took it off, it had a core, but through several flushings and antibiotics, it is now healed except for the scabby surface. I do not know how long the scab was there, just that the duck has never walked "right" according to the owners but it had gotten progressively worse. So in the video I will link, he is doing much better in just two days from the niacin I *think*. I will continue it and see if he continues to improve. Two days ago he would not even have been able to use his wings in that manner because his leg wouldn't lift off the floor at all. He uses the right wing to balance as you can see in the picture...it is NOT angel wing...he can put it down. He only does this when he is tense or trying to balance. He is also underweight and does not eat a lot.
