I have 4 ducks and one Drake. They all currently eat grower pellets. My girls have not yet started laying. I don’t know what/if I need to switch them to layer feed? What will my Drake eat? I’ve heard some people keep their ducks and drakes on grower pellets and use oyster shell for the girls on the side, is this ok? I’d rather they all had the same if possible. Can anyone advise?

I mix in layer feed with normal feed for my ducks and they seem fine even though I have a drake.

I’m open to any suggestions as I’m a first time duck owner and have no clue on what is the best feed for all of them. My Drake is very special to me, he has had a tough time lately, he underwent an amputation of his….boy part, so I want to make sure he gets what’s best for him as well as what’s best for the girls. Also forgot to say I’m in the UK so I know our feeds are different.

I have to ask, sorry about this. So did a vet surgically remove his penis or did he lose it another way? I did not know they would be alright if this should happen to them. Does he still try to mate? I am glad to hear that he is doing alright. I was just shocked to see this post. Thanks for any info.

I just hatched out five eggs this past spring and they all look like drakes. I just wondered if something should ever happen to them what can be done for them. Thanks again.

I raise UK ducks but im in the US..i feed an all flock, that is 22 percent to my ducks and drakes. I supplement with oyster shell as well as their eggs shells sterilized and ground.

Is there any reason not to let the drake eat the Mazuri breeder feed? My drake has been eating it with our ducks for the last 8 months and he is the healthiest member of my flock. My girls are a bit ragged and a couple of them are laying weaker eggs - which is what brought me here to read about what others are feeding their ducks - but my drake is looking fantastic. Weirdly, he is also the one I see most frequently nibbling at the oyster shells I keep out for them.
