Because they require different levels of certain protein, vitamins and minerals...I think your in for a huge challenge being my University Vet is still learning and now with the Backyard Chicken craze they are trying to come up with better formulas and vaccines...Many years away though.

That’s not really what I meant. What I meant is why would the Purina for example make different kinds of dog food with different nutritional content than Pedigree. But when Purina or Nutrena makes poultry feed, the brands have the same nutritional content?

If I wanted to buy each brand at TSC, I could do the analysis of the nutritional content myself but I really don’t want to invest that much time in it. Regardless, there is a lot known about the nutrients themselves. So you can at least start there.

I purchase Duck formulated feed and so far it's working. I have never fed Chicken feed to Ducks so don't know..I know different species of Birds require different amounts of certain things to be in optimal condition...There are meat Birds, layers Etc..All have specific needs...
