I have a quick question I have had 4 of my ducks since may but 3 are male and 1 female. I have 13 all together and discovered I have 6 males in total and 7 females. I have had to keep the older drakes separate from the females for several months now when locked up. Tomorrow I am selling all of my drakes but considering keep one. My three grown are a mallard drake, saxony drake, and appleyard mix drake. The one hen that’s been with them since hatched is very attached to them so I’m afraid if I get rid of all of them that could alter her egg production or could she decline in health? I would still have to keep the one drake separate until all the females are egg laying age since all but two are around 14 weeks.

So question is should I keep one of the males for her or would she eventually be fine with her new flock?

Ok so an all girl flock is fine without even 1 drake? I feel like she’s going to hate me bc she has nothing to do with the others.

If you want to keep a drake, there’s no reason not to. Depends on if you want fertile eggs to hatch. And if you think the one duck is really attached to one of the drakes, why not keep that one?

Either way should work out fine.

I’m thinking about keeping one or two of the drakes. If I keep two then I plan on getting at least 3 more females to have 10 females. I will still have to keep him separated from 5 of the females until they are another month or so older but I guess I could put the two females and him together. Those 3 are the ones I’ve had since may.

Have you had problems keeping them all together? I have always raised my ducklings with my adults full time, once the ducklings were off heat. I wouldn’t worry about how old the younger ones are.
@Finnie Drakes are a danger to ducklings inder 16 weeks; even ducklings with their own mother can be attacked or mated by a drake. @Hball is right to keep the duvklings and drakes separate

If you want to keep one that she has a bond with, then do. I think it would be nice for her to be able to keep one of her friends, no harm in that.
