Duck Fever-I Knew This Was Contagious LOL

When are you moving?
I lived in Colorado for 7 years & have been in Maine for almost a year now.
I LOVE Maine. It is sort of like being on a different planet a lot of the time. I think 80% of the people in my county raise backyard flocks.

I'm with you. As long as they are girls. I ordered 2 WH females & a Cayuga female for Spring. Am going to try to hatch some of my Anconas & keep a girl or two as well, then remove the drake and his favorite lady to a larger farm with more girls. I have decided I am not cut out for breeding, but can definitely enjoy a laying flock to keep my pantry stocked with baked goods.
Well I was supposed to move at the end of this year, but by the looks of things we may not move until next year. Where in Maine are you? I have read a lot about Maine, but how different is it from Colorado?? Other then temperature obviously lol

I just might! I want to see some in person first.. I heard they are huge?

:/Lol, I knew there were ducklings at outlr feed store, so I begged mom if I could go with her to see the ducklings (as I secretly slipped my $20 in my pocket) so when I got there, I saw they had runners (which I have wanted ever since my runner duckling died) so I begged her once again. And she gave in lol.

I brought home 1 fawn & white l, and 1 black east indie. Those things were excpencive to! $5 each! :ep

Im thinking my black east indie is alctually a cayuga. Not sure though....

I was kind of suspecting your BEI might be a cayuga too. Cayugas are super-cool ducks though so I'd be happy either way.

$5 each is the going rate for ducklings where I live. Chicks go from $3-4 depending on breed. Of course, exotic ones are more expensive.

Thinking about to going down to Wilco today and looking around. Their website says nothing about ducks, so I might be safe.

He looks alot smaller in the pics. Maybe hes just a runty cayuga. I dont care though. I had a cayuga drake I ADORED! but this one is a hen :D

What is different... Well, aside from it being colder... everything.
The pace is slower than some N.E. states, but not Colorado slow.
There is a different attitude here. Kind of - you leave me alone & I'll do the same. I like it. Everyone gets to be who they are.

Oh ok. The attitude is interesting.. Are people friendly? For example, I visit my aunt & cousin in NJ and NY, everyone there was suprisingly nice and helpful etc. Out here in CO I think people are pretty rude and inconsiderate, at least in my town.. I kind of like the Ill leave you alone if you do attitude, but I hope people are friendly if you need help or what not.. Theres a small town in CO that I find people very nice and excited to have visitors or new owners, but most of the farm towns Ive been at or lived in arent very welcoming to new comers.. I think that is my biggest worry moving to Maine, I wont be welcome! Lol
