Hello! In the past week my Pekin duck Sam (about 2 1/2 months old) has gone from being loud and chatty to almost silent. Its still moving its mouth and trying to quack but little to no sound is coming out. Along with this symptom Sam has also been making a sneezing and coughing noise frequently.
I've attached a video here:
Note: Sam doesn't cough or sneeze in this video but it is very frequent. Also want to note that this sound Sam is making is drastically different from the much louder quacking about a week ago. Many times it is silent and no noise comes out.
No other birds have this symptom and there isn't any evidence of a physical wound. The duck is eating and drinking normally. So far we have given Sam a warm bath to try and clear up any potential blockages in the nostrils. I have looked and not noticed any discharge or blockages in the nostrils. We do have amoxicillin if this turns out to be a respiratory infection. Problem for us is that there are no waterfowl vets within over an hour of us.
Ducks live in a coop with pine shaving bedding that is replaced about once a week and is kept dry.
Thank you in advance!
