Duck hatching baby chickens!

That picture is so cute. I'd put the chicks back with her, since she didn't trample them in the nest, I think they are fine with her. It may also keep her from going broody so quickly since now she has what she wanted.

As far as the water, if there is no pond or even a too deep water source such as a ditch or deep puddle (2 or 3 inches depth) in the yard, I wouldn't worry about any drownings.

I can't choose for you, but my ducks were very good moms. One of my Muscovey ducks did raise a chick. The little chicken girl followed her duck mom around until she was 6 months old and ready to be a chicken. Strange how the Muscovey mom hung around with her chicken baby. Mine usually tended to get ready to breed again as soon as the ducklings could swim -still babies!
