I have a mallard duck sitting on both chicken and duck eggs. The chickens are starting to hatch today. Should I let the duck continue to mother the chickens or is best to take them away from her. I've read that she may feel "finished" and abandon the duck eggs. I've also been told that she could kill them. What should I do?

Let the duck mother the chickens you will have to put the duck eggs in an incubator or under another broody duck or chicken, she will abandon the eggs.

That's a bummer. I do not have an incubator or another broody. It would be easier to take the chickens from her if she gets off the nest for a break. But, what will she do when she comes back and finds them gone? Sorry, this is my first time hatching.

She may still set ,but once she hatches she knows her chicks are ready and may stop setting on eggs
