Split hatch

When my broody hatched, we discovered that she'd been collecting eggs. She is a collector so we'd been watching for this, but she fooled me.

Two of the collected eggs looked like they were viable so I stuck them in the incubator. One hatched a week later and I gave it to the broody.

The other egg I was pretty sure was a dud, but jic I left it in the incubator when I started another batch.

And of course it's hatching this morning. I turned off the turner for the moment. She's not zipping yet. I can't pull the turner at this point but I'm concerned she might not have room to push.

The brooder is set up. Any ideas?

*Update, She's still chewing so there might be time. I have the brooder set up with a brooder plate as well as a heating pad underneath.

**She's still chewing. The other eggs are less than a week old so I took a chance and removed the turner. I hope it won't affect them. The eggs are quite large, so I had to remove the eggs before taking the turner out. The brooder temp is up to 90.

I'm happy to hear it hatched! Seeing when you posted this verses your last update, it looks like it hatched fairly quickly. Was you able to get the turner back in? How's the chick doing?

I put her outside with the broody. If they don't bond I'll put the chick heater outside. The baby was crying and wouldn't sleep unless I was holding her, so it was time.

I got the turner back in and did the first candle. 15 out of 16 have a spot and veins.

Not sure yet if they bonded, but she is letting the baby sleep under her and not chasing it or attacking. The baby still seems confused and is struggling to keep up with her older siblings.

I'm leaving them locked in the brooder today to give her a chance to catch up.
