Update on egg that did not hatch 4 days ago:
Well we kept a close eye on the egg and candled every day to watch for any bad signs. So, last night the air sac got real awkward shaped and bigger. I could not tell if it was internally pipped. I left it for the night and thought in the morning it should be internally pipped. I waited until the afternoon to candle. When I did it looked like it was trying to break through internally. I waited until this evening and decided to open a tiny hole to look inside, I mean it is already 4 days pretty much five since the last egg hatched and still nothing, that cannot be right. I looked in and sure enough the poor thing is shrink wrapped!
I opened the shell a bit more and used a pair of tweezer where the duckling was trying to pip through and moved the two layers of membrane away from the beak. I placed it back in with its siblings and they pecked all the membrane away that they could get to. The baby looks big, and the beak is huge and it barely has any of its egg tooth left. The membrane still has some veins, but not many. I cannot see a yolk, but it is still in the shell.
I plan to leave it this way throughout the night, should I leave it alone tomorrow too?
Thanks, we hate to lose this baby, she has already been abandoned. Which is her name, abandon! We hope she will soon abandon her shell and join us
