whats it mean when someone says they duck is sitting on its haunches? Or Hocks? My 4 1/2 wk old pekin has grown super quickly. On 24% starter feed, supplemented with brewers yeast. She eats clover outside, peas, corn, mealworms, and watermelon. But she seems to only want to take a few steps before she plops down to rest. Is this normal bc she’s grown so fast? Am I being a bad duck mommy? Our other duckling (not a pekin) is half her size and the same age! And has no issues walking. If been reading about ducklings walking in their haunches but I have no clue what that means! When she walks, she’s on her feet. One day she seems strong and will go further, then the next she seems more shaky on her feet and like to rest more. I just want her to be a happy and healthy baby!

Pekins tend to need a lot of b12 supplementation because they grow so large so quickly. Can you go to your local feed store and get some injectable b complex from the cattle section? You dribble 1 ml (so get a needleless syringe while you're there) over a treat daily for a couple weeks and see if there's any improvement.

It might look like this (labels vary):

We would have to see the niacin content. But yes that could work. You just might have to give the little one more of that than the cattle one. The cattle has a high dose of niacin which is why we usually recommend that over others. But if this is what you can get then it will help.
