I wasn’t sure if this would be well received but a comment in my other post mentioned wanting to see a video of duck work with my dogs!

This is a video of Taf, a 4-year-old male that I raised and trained. I own his sire an 8-year-old and another year old girl who all train on my ducks.

Taf has had only 2 months of training and in this video he is fighting very hard against his natural instinct to gather to me. Border Collies were bred to have the instinct to bring livestock to their handlers but I’m asking Taf to put the ducks in a pen behind me. He loses his control and goes around to free the penned ducks and you will hear a sigh of frustration out of me haha before we do it again.

All in all I’m very proud of this dog and him and I will be doing a short herding demo at our town’s Fall Fair next week. He’s not advanced enough to do a lot of cool things but I really hope something like this (with real obstacles) would be worth watching at a fair?

Thanks for watching!

Your pup does a great job. I was wondering what kind of ducks are the 2 tan ones? I have 2 females like that and I can never remember what they are.

Wow! Thank you guys so much! You have no idea how much your comments and encouragement are helping!
I’ve been so nervous about doing a demo and not being good enough. I’m going to keep you guys in mind while on display and try not to stress so much! :love
LOL @
That is fantastic! Can you do that with a dog that looks as anything with feathers as a squeaky toy? *sigh*
I have huskies as well and have yet to train them to even be out with the ducks penned but if I figure it out you’ll be the first to know :lau
