STUPID QUESTION: When you dug the hole, how did you get the water to stay in there without draining through the dirt?

Does the pond maintain itself? Do you use fish or anything to help keep it cleaner? I'm trying to figure out how to make one that stays cleaner than the last one I had- it was quite a bit smaller than yours though. You must have soil that holds water pretty well?

Where I live in S.C. if you dig a hole the water will come. It has a clay bottomn which holds water very well. I did put a few bream in to help[keep it clean. The size if big enough that a few ducks don't cause any problems.
