Wow sure is expensive seems the surgery would be the better of the 2.

This is fantastic information! Thank you! I would rather avoid surgery, if at all possible. I'll have to talk to vets further away, I think, but that's ok.Oh Wow definitely get a second opinion. I have found it to be a really good solution to stop laying. We don't pay that much for the implant and they told us every 6 months - BUT - I have found that if we get the implant in Feb, before laying season starts, it wears off around Aug/Sept when she's going through normal molt and doesn't lay anyway in the winter months - so we don't have to get the 2nd one each year. If you do go with the implant, don't be alarmed when it forces her into molt - that's normal - and they are a little grumpy right after - nothing that can't be solved with a few extra treats. Good luck - keep us posted on what you decide!

What breed is your duck? Just for size comparison for the implants.
Oh, she is a big girl! My Marmalade weighs 5 1/2 lbs. So if implants can work for your Pekin, then should be good for my Welshie.Abby is a Pekin - weighs ~10 pounds - she's a big girl. I guess there are different sizes of implants - I didn't think about that... We don't have any close vets either - it's an entire day adventure to get to a good one unfortunately - but we love them so.....![]()
I got the implants for my duckie. It has gone very well. She ended up not needing any surgery, and she is doing fantastically! Not cheap, but 2 implants will last 6 months, so it's not all that bad. It definitely saved her life!Just curious how you went with your duck @Aunt Angus
Sometimes they still need implants and Lupron even after hysterectomy so they don’t lay internally
@CrystaBub your duck didn’t need this?
