Duck Info For Beginners

That sounds wonderful! I have about 2 acres, but it is bordering a forest on two sides, so many wild predators could eat my babies. I love that you quack at them (I thought I was the only one ahaha) What breeds do you have? x2 on the straw. I can't get chopped straw anywhere except from Amazon and it's obviously more expensive and less local. Thank you!
Currently I have a crested pekin, a welsh harlequin, and a maybe dark khaki campbell.

My sweethearts who passed away were a welsh harlequin, a cayuga, and a maybe light/regular khaki campbell.

I started out with 6 nearly six years ago. They are pretty great. Even though they don't like being touched, we have a wonderful relationship. Like, of a scary hawk flies over, they run to my feet.

Aww that's great that they love and trust you! I'm sorry that you had to lose three. Welsh Harlequins are so pretty!

Treats I would say peas, green beans, tomatoes, lettuce (NOT ICEBURG LETTUCE) If you buy it canned make sure they have no salt as too much salt can kill them. For their house in which they sleep it I personally like straw just because it’s cheap and in winter it keeps them warm. Ducks are water animals so if you could get them a kiddi pool that would be great. Also something very important is that they need deep water so they can submerge their heads and clean their ears, eyes, nose. Honestly I’m not a big fan of Nutrina Just because I feel like it has too much protein for adult ducks. Mine is a nicked flock (males and females) so they get All Flock feed from Country Road.

Thank you! I'm glad you told me about the salt thing. Thanks for your opinion on the feed. I will definitely research what type is best. Thanks again!

As for the "best" that would probably be Mazuri waterfowl feed, at least according to what I've seen other people say on here I've seen several people say their vet recommends the Mazuri, but its generally gonna be about twice as expensive, maybe even more than other brands of duck feed

Also not many people seem to know this but ducks don’t have teeth so they swallow their food whole so when feeding treats please make sure it’s small enough for them to swallow I almost killed one of my ducks this way. Ducks eat very fast and every time they eat they act as if they’ve never eaten so please keep water bowls next to their food. If your getting heavyweight ducks I would recommend epsom salt. Another thing to keep in handy is children’s ibreprofen. When my ducks got attacked by a dog they received .11mL per lb. I would name them even though I didn’t name mine they all respond to the name “Duckies” which is very cute because when I call them they come running. I also got them quack snacks from Flock Party you should try them out!

Omg, right?! They seriously act like they are starving constantly!! "Guys! I just fed you!" Lol.

And yeah, my duck almost choked to death on a slug once. She was literally falling over because she couldn't breathe. Chewing isn't a thing.

Oh my! Falling over?? I fed my duckling watermelon once and it started shaking it’s heal like crazy and then making weird head positions as at she wanted to throw up. She shook head and “splash” there was watermelon everywhere. Then minutes after I thought she was done she threw up a huge piece of watermelon.

Thank

Thank you! Are Welsh Harlequins, Runners, Khaki Campbells, and Golden 300 hybrids heavyweight? Also, what do you use that Epsom salt for? Ooh the snacks from the Flock Party sound good!
