Duck is better but still need advice

Oh I get it. Mix the whole gallon and then just use each day. Did you refrigerate after mixing ?
BTW I love this: "I want only to "chicken," "duck," and "goat" full time - is that too much to ask?" And I totally agree !! :)

At what point do I need to consider draining? It sounds like my order for the Tricide won't ship until Monday or Tuesday. There was no option for expedited shipping so I imagine it will be the better part of a week before I get it....

I just stored the solution in my laundry room (aka the farm triage center). It keeps for a week, I think. It says on the package.

And I think it's a judgment call for draining. I have a Welshie who seems prone to all kinds of issues. She had just about the worst case of bumblefoot I've seen. It was swollen with no scab at first. I tried to drain it like I do my chickens' feet, but I only made things worse. It ended up developing a huge sore - like larger in diameter than a quarter! My vet wanted to do surgery but suggested I try the tricide neo when I brought it up. It took weeks. Over a month, I think, for it to finally clear up.

If your vet is willing to do it, that's def an option. A vet would do better making incisions and keeping things clean.

I do foot checks every few days now. I just did one tonight and - lo and behold - Marmalade has the beginnings of another infection. Everyone else looks great. It's ALWAYS Marmalade...

That looks painful, but so much better that she started out! It's like she's a different duck, honestly.

She had antibiotics already, right? I'm wondering if surgery might be needed. Can you talk to her vet again (hopefully w/out paying for a visit)?

Or try the tricide neo and see what happens?

Yes 10 days of antibiotics. The vet said there isn't anything else to be done for her so I don't feel like that is an option at this point. :( But I may give him a call on Monday and see what he says. Pretty sure he didn't think she would live. That may be why he said there was nothing else to be done. I have the tricide neo coming, hopefully it will get here soon.

Which antibiotic? I wonder if a different one would do it?

I wish we could just ask them, "Hey, Duck - what's going on with your foot?"

Does she walk at all?

Considering how she was when you found her, he probably didn't think she'd survive. She's cone a long way!

Marmalade is beautiful !!
Oh - and thank you! This breed is what made me want ducks in the first place. They are so beautiful! And Marmalade is colored surprisingly well for a hatchery bird.

Now if she would just stop being so clumsy. She's always getting injured or getting stuck in places you wouldn't believe a duck could manage to get into.

just curious, did the vet xray the foot? it just looks "wrong" to me, I have ducks and clumsy ones at that, the last time I had a duck foot look like that, one of the bones was broken. Just a tiny fracture, no displacement or anything but it looked similar to yours.
Just asking as a possibility. Not diagnosing or anything.
