If you have a baby on the way you know what it's called {Nesting} and they just get so sweet for the most part. Now when she actually starts to sit she may change her tune, My muscovy when she was sitting would pinch the dickens out of my hand when I would look to see how many eggs she had. You just never know. Anyway keep us posted and of course when the day comes you are expected to post lots of Pictures!!

I have a cute hatching story: I had ducks that were good layers but not good setters. I had a too- old -to -lay -eggs hen that was a good setter. So I put the eggs into the nest with the hen(Henny)and she hatched them! Because of inprinting she naturally thought she was their mom and the rooster (Reggie) took care of them all. This was the cutest thing I ever witnessed because the ducks of course don't scratch like the chickens and the chckens dont swim!!Interesting. Anyway, my later duck also laid eggs that hatched and there was no trouble with the drake or any other ducks. The mom(who recently died) really watched over them and they are still living happily with my hens and rooster! But the ducks sure are dirty.

I think you need to post pics also chicachic.. and wouldn't the ducks swim if you gave them swimming water, it's built in. no more dirty ducks.

that sure is a sweet story.

to Miss Lydia... Ha I mean that the ducks are dirtier than chickens lol. They have a pool but they splash around and make a muddy mess and then they insist ontrampling in the mud. the chickens pretty much keep their distance.

Helloo everyone!
Shes still laying them eggs lol, we are up to seven so far!! Still at one a night. The drake has become even more protective of the nest, when i go to check how many eggs there are every morning he attacks the crap outta me!! haha, my lady duck just sits aside and don't mind me checking, if anything she goes inside the coop and sits and just watches me. :) I'll tell you what though, she has been doing a hell of alotta quacking! she is WAYYY more vocal than EVER! I mean my ducks have always greeted me, they see my car pull up and they run across the yard to the fence like they were being chased or something just to greet me, with little quacks. Now, when i go outside to walk the dog / leave the house/ anything, the running is associated with this super loud HEY LOOK AT ME quacking LOL.
Another thing I noticed with her nest, she has 5 eggs in the center of the nest, with some hay over top, but the other two eggs are buried in dirt, along the edges of the nest, under the nest itself..its really weird. Do you think those are the two oldest eggs and shes burying them to keep them fresh?? I mean thats my only wild guess lol. its just so strange! I know she still probaly has about 1-3 eggs left in her, shes still pretty round, and honestly i really dont think she could fit anymore inside of her!! and if so, then ****, more power to her! lol .

Hello! Just giving an update! We are up to 15 eggs now!! ( i cant believe this small duck fits that many inside of her!! amazing!) Daddy duck has become more protective than ever (i think she may start sitting soon) and now even mama duck is protective!!! No more nice mama! lol. I went outside to check and she was on the nest, and after a few minutes she got off the next, so I waited 10 more minutes and she wasnt going back to the nest so I assumed she was just laying an egg. I went to walk over to the nest and daddy duck (who is a pekin, which they usually dont fly, at least he dont) picked himself up airborn and landed in front of me trying to keep me from going any further! So i walked past him (poor duck haha) and counted the eggs, and when my hand got to close, mama duck bit it. Then daddy duck looked at me, then counted all the eggs, i mean, im guessing he did because hee touched every one with his beak, im assuming to make sure they were all there :) I cant wait to see how many more she lays if any!

Everyone!! They are starting to hatch!!! :) I'm so excited!!! I candled an egg today and saw the ducky moving in the egg, and that his shell was cracked a bit! I put him back and now i am awating their arrival. I'm so excited:)
