Hello! New here. We have 6 ducklings (about 6 weeks now). We bought them from TSC and our smallest one has always walked with sort of a limp. As it grew we hoped it would get stronger but it still can only take 3-4 steps and then sits down. It can stand up to eat, drink, swim if needed but doesn’t forage like the rest. Just stays close to the duck house. The vet said probably birth defect and it’s not broken. Since I’m new to ducks, I want to give it the best quality of life. Any advice?

She has a bad case of a B3 deficiency, I would immediately start her on Cattle B Complex Injectable, you can find it at most feed stores, it's labeled as an injectable, but we either administer it orally with a syringe or give it to her over treats. You will want to go 1ml a day. I'll provide you with a picture of the exact bottle you should get, and just a few more questions, do you notice any swelling, cuts or sores on the bottom of her feet, and do her legs feel hot at all? What are you feeding them?

Thank you! We will try that! No none of those things. She’s walked like this since we brought home from TSC. Thought they would get stronger but they haven’t. She stands just fine, it’s just the walking. Will only take steps to food and water bowl then will stay in one area most of the day. We let them free range but she has only ventured out twice. She doesn’t seem in pain and does not cry when she walks.

Pekin ducks can get very large, and withouth the vitamins to support their fast growing bodies they can develop a limp. So yes, feed her some minerals, and B3 to help out! My duck has not had this problem, but I know it is very common!

Thank you! I’ve not experienced this either and I want to be humane as I can! I want to make sure she gets the best life possible!

The Durvet liquid BComplex has been a life saver for many of our waterfowl. It would have been so much better if she’d been on it earlier but still can help but please get her started ASAP.
