Duck lost his partner

Hello, I am new to BYC, have chickens and did have 2 male Pekin ducks, however, one has disappeared, cannot find evidence of a fox kill and have scoured the back paddock where they like to roam (it's a nice 'native' wilderness)... very sad. However, the boys "Mick & Mike" were very close and did EVERYTHING together in unison, I am now worried about Mike being on his own as I have read that they need a duck friend and I do not want him to bother the chooks... any thoughts? Maybe I should just rush out & get him another friend, but will they take to each other?

It will be largely up to them, but if you take it slowly they will likely warm up to each other, especially if there are no female ducks around.

I am new to BYC also! I can relate to your problem. my 2 Peking ducks were very close. My male duck died and left my female duck (Aflack) alone. Aflack is like a pet. Maybe if you pay more attention to him he may be fine. Aflack has been without my other duck for 4 months. I am sorry about your duck
