Well, that explains a lot.
AH HA! I get it now. Thanks for the lesson in duck math.
I wanted 2 ducks for bug control & as a bonus=eggs.
Found out that it was expensive to ship just two ducks and with the mortality rates being what they are I would need 3 or 4 anyway---
just to cover any possible losses.
It was still very expensive shipping for just 3 or 4
And having a variety might be nice so
Thought I would get the minimum (10) & split the order with friends----
no one I know that wanted ducks actually has the money to pay for them.
Decided to get a blend of layers, meat & beauty ducks -----
loosing focus here. remember bug control?
ordered 4 each of my 3 Choices---
I had to make sure I got male & female so with 4 each the chances were good.
So I ordered 12, instead of the 10 minimum.
Then I got worried, what if I screw this up? what if Im not as ready as I think I am, What if I got two ducks from the local feed store so I could make all my mistakes & improvements before the whole brood got here. Good Idea!
Bought two Pekin from the local store. Made mistakes, Im pretty sure the lights in the brooder cooked one to death (and made the other one pretty ditzy actually but that is another story) went out the next morning and got another to keep the first one company, Fixed mistakes.
Spent a LOT more money on bigger brooder,out door pen, separator for the outdoor pen since the ducks would be 4 weeks apart in age and would probably need to be separated till the lil ones grow up a bit (they did and are still), more water bottles, food trays, grit, goodies, bedding, kiddie pools, renovation of the pond, sump pump, bio filter ......the list goes on
4 weeks later 12 more arrived.
A little over 7 weeks later I still have 14 very healthy ducks.
and have agreed to adopt a few more in a couple of weeks.
So it went from 2 ducks to 15! (one loss and adoptions pending) THAT IS INSANE MATH!
Cant wait for the first $500.00 omlet.
