Other duck is dead. Caught the skunk trying to drag it away! DH tried to shoot it but missed.

Right now Daffy is in the crate calming. I know he has some deep injuries and his back is mauled so bad there is a lot of skin missing.

How do I treat this?!? Can someone tell me what to do? I figured if he doesn't die from shock soon, I will do my best to save him. He is not used to being handled though and I don't want to cause him more trama yet.

Daffy is gone now. He was just injured to badly.

Daffy and Bubbles will be missed.

FOR THE SHOCK: Give electrolytes in the water

FOR THE WOUND:....make up some sterile saline solution... you may need a lt the first time so I would boil a tsp of salt in two quarts of water for five minutes and let cool. Now you need to flush /squirt this INTO the deep wounds to remove any organic material etc. Use copiously and flush well. (Perhaps put the duck in your bathtub to do this)
then apply n iodine or betadine solution and let air dry. Then triple antibiotic (you must keep the wounds moist) do this daily (or twice daily dpeendent on conditions and if you see the wound drying out) for three or four days then switch the triple antibiotic creme to GRANULEX V (see link below)

(look at feed store in horse /livestock section or in the pet section as they might also have it)

Dont let the duck outside ... keep separated (perhaps ask Terrie if she feels the duck needs to bathe in your bathtub >>>I dont know that much about ducks and their need for water)

I just read your post that the bird sadly didn't make it :aww (probably internal injuries)
