We got ducks a couple of years ago. A few months ago my drake got attacked and was hurt....I think protecting the duck. He died the next day. Now I think the little female he was protecting is not walking well....using her wings to balance. This was about 4 months ago. She sits under the apple tree and doesn't usually run with the rest of the group. Has a funny voice and I'm thinking the new drake has her too many times. The back of her head is more naked than the other 3 girls. If she gets in the pool he jumps on her and holds her under water.....I have put her with 2 young ducks for a few days! Hate to keep them penned since it is so hot! But I want her away from the drake for a few days! She looks very unkempt. Don't know what to think! Any thoughts?

Drakes can do a number on a duck especially if they pick on the same one constantly. Probably a very wise decision keeping her away actually A lot of our members have drake jail because of this so you might want to put him in the pen some and let the girls out

I once had a female who went lame for a few days thanks to a stupid drake. I think you are right to keep her away from him! Can you give the three of them a small, shallow pool for the heat and to get pressure off her legs? I have a cheap horse feeder that only holds a few gallons of water that mine like.

I'm hoping that is the fix for this! The 3 have a small pool and fresh water daily! Their own food place. She seems to stay by herself most of the day, but in the evening the sillies are all in the pen together until noon. I'll just keep her locked up for a few days. Away from the drake! Thanks!

It may take longer than a few days and most likely when you let her out it's going to start all over again. If I had this problem my girls would be separated from the drake for a good while. it sure won't hurt the drake and will help the females recover.
