I have a 14 y/o mutt drake i rescued. He is missing all the webbing on one foot, we call it his chicken foot. when i found him he was skin and bones and could only crawl. Best drake ive ever had. I found a pekin juvenile at our local drop off spot. She had a foot injury as well, but mom wouldnt let me bring her home

I think he misses the big pond, he has been laying next to the waterer 24/7 lol. I was thinking of putting a couple older ducklings in with him. i think my 7wk olds would pick on him, i am pretty sure the goslings wouldnt like him, lol.

If there was Snapping Turtles in their pond wouldnt they be eating ducks? there's like 100 drakes to 20 hens

those poor girls look like crap & The stupid city wont do anything about controling the population. Most of the mallards leave but the always come back in spring so there's really no need for other boys there since they're obviously breeding the domestic hens. or they could collect all the eggs(try to anyway). i dunno, it just seems mean having so many birds in one place with so few hens.

Why don't you write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. You may be able to submit it per email. I would go back and try to get an accurate count of the males, females, mallards, domestic and mixed ducks. I would also explain in the letter why there is a problem at that lake. Not just the ratio of birds, but also the issue with people dumping domestic non-flying ducks. Perhaps it generates enough interest that something will be done.

great job bleenie. lovely bird. and what are those little patches of earth i see in your pictures? are those patches for something? maybe for pits dug by the ducks in the grass?

Yes, moles. they're about the ugliest things. i had one scare me when it came above ground last week and i had to..."take care of it".

The chickens like keeping them bare looking for worms after rain though, lol. I need to pen everyone up and seed them all.
