Long story short, Daisy is going for surgery on Tuesday, and I feel like my anxiety is going to rip my stomach apart.
Daisy's phallus prolapsed at the beginning of May. Managed to get it back in and fixed with home treatment, but it happened again this week. We couldnt get it back in to stay. I brought him to work yesterday and we tried replacing it and putting sutures to hold it, but it didnt work. So now he is going to a referral centre on Tuesday to get it amputated.
He regurgitated a bit while sedated yesterday, so now he is a bit gurgly in his throat. His lungs are still clear though. He is going on antibiotics before the surgery anyway so if there is any issues that should help.
I have to keep it moist and clean until then, so I have him separated from the others and I'm applying prep H and giving him Meloxicam to keep the swelling down.
Daisy is the first duck I ever hatched. He is the nicest duck I have, he follows me around, nibbles on me, waits for me to collect slugs for him to eat, always the first for treats. He'll be 4 years old in August. He's my baby
I hope everything goes well but I am so worried I feel sick. Anyone have tips for caring for a duck post surgery? Tricks you did at home? Has your duck had this done?
Please, any advice or reassurance is appreciated. I work in as a vet tech and its mind boggling how as soon as its your own animal, all veterinary training goes out the window.
