that's what i think, I'll try to get them of it..... i don't mind snails, i even like them.... but they are finishing my little plant!!

I love your pond idea. I am new to ducks and just have four ducklings. I was trying to figure out the best pond design. This is great! Did you share it at another location on the site? Or would you share what you did?

I will tell you it hasn't been going well. Since I made the pond last year and used cement it settled and cracked over the winter. I set about filling the cracks with cement crack filler. Since I had a newborn baby this took some time. When I finally finished and was waiting for it to cure so I could fill the pond again it HAILED. The hail ripped off all the filler I'd used in the cracks. Since then I've been incredibly disheartened and haven't tried fixing the pond again. So the cement is still cracked. Worse, since the pond liner that I used on the biofilter side has been exposed to the elements it's been ripping. So now neither side of my pond are set to hold water. I have pond plants inside in a fish tank but they really aren't flourishing there like they did out in the pond. In fact some have just died off completely. Very disappointing. At this point I'm not sure what I'd suggest for lining a pond. Both cement and pond liner have disappointed me.

Just found this thread..... furbabymom, congratulations on your newborn!

I have gardened all my life, but just started researching water gardening. My interest really sparked when I discovered the nutritional value of duckweed for all my critters. Recently, I was given 2 hard shell liners. One is set up for the ducks and the other I plan to grow duckweed in. My problem is..... I cannot find duckweed anywhere in my area. I know it is considered an invasive obnoxious weed. I also knew I would get "funny" looks when I said I wanted some. For a weed that is supposed to be "everywhere" it continues to elude me! I have checked with two aquarium supply stores and also checked with several plant nurseries. At one time, we had several "water garden" installation/maintenance companies with in a 60 mile radius, but they have all gone out of business. I did get permission from a guy with "cow" ponds to get all I wanted. It turned out to be frogbit! I brought some home anyway. Now I'm waiting on it to recover from transplant shock.

Since I can't find duckweed, I am looking for an alternative. Any suggestions?

ebay. I've bought a ton of plants from ebay. They tend to be fairly cheap and in the right environment explode in growth. I bought frogbit from ebay last year. I do know a local pond that has a ton of duckweed so I've never had to buy it though. Want me to go skim some off for ya?
