I am in the planning stages of a duckponics setup, and am slowly accumulating the components I'll need to get it up and running. I know that standard water pumps are likely to take a pretty serious beating due to solids, and in my planning, I'm taking precautions to avoid most solids getting pumped anywhere. I have heard that sump type pumps are a better option, but based on my admittedly limited experience with pumps/ponds, aren't sump pumps designed to only run for short periods of time and then shut off? Also, energy consumption is a concern to me. I am imagining a sump pump using significantly more power than a standard waterfall pump. What pump are you using, and how has it performed with regards to duck waste?
