Duck Ponds/Pools

Here's what I did with my little pool once I figured out that they just stand there to eat the grass and mud, only to muddy up the clean pool in seconds! I put fencing (plastic coated hardwire) around it and only left an opening to enter the pool. It kept the mud at bay for a few days.
Opps... forgot to post the pictures

My ducks love it when I drag the kiddie pool away to dump it. They stick their bills deep into the mud under the pool and root around, and then when I put the rinsed-out pool back they wash their muddy bills in it while I'm filling it!

I dump dirty water everyday. I have 6 shallow pools. Summers here are BBQ. The water gets hot end of the day. Since, I am not Super Woman, I needed something, I could manage. It became so habit of mine, that I don't think twice to change the water. The water stays clean for 5-10 min., but my duck don't mine at all. They are happy - I am happy. In summer they LOVE sprinkles. They do try catch water from a sprinkle. Sometimes, they stay still under a sprinkle. If they just had little umbrellas :lau

Do not worry, if you change water 2-3 a week - your ducks should be fine. I think dirty water bother us more than ducks.

My ducks LOVE when I spray them with the hose too! It’s almost impossible to really spray down the coop because they always get in the way. LOL

We have two baby pools. We fill them up once a day. I use the dirty water to water my grass and plants. It doesn't matter what I do, it will always be dirty. And that is fine, because they love eating mud, sand, muddy water, sandy water... it's a win-win all the way around. Give them their water, let them be ducks and use the dumping as cardio. LOL
