What is the dimensions of your run?


I priced a 13' x 30' pool liner and it's $100. I was thinking of making a pond 8' wide and maybe 16' long with 12" high sides. I don't see needing anything very deep, just need swim and play room.

THanks... my pen is around 11 x 27 and the hut is 8x6.. Im adding on right now and preditor proofing their free range area which is 35 x 45 .. it is chainlink fenced in now but one of my ducks got taken and killed so Im tryng to prevent going thru that again

8 x 16 sounds like a good size... the depth is good too.. Ive had great luck with my drain, rinse (bleach once a week) and refill method.. its super easy
and no messing with filters and such.. I will probly put another pond in the new area as Ive gotten a few more ducks ..

Figured up the gallons capacity of 8' x 16' x 1' (LENGTH x WIDTH x HEIGHT / 231

), 957 gallons.

I may just do (2) of the 270 gallon version and elevate it slightly above the ground for drainage or (1) big one and (1) small one.

mudhog.. did u notice in my pond the built in ledges... I love them... I throw treats in on them and they look like they are eating at a buffet

and they can jump up on them and look around or preen...

Did you just add dirt around the pond and put the stones in the dirt? Are all 4 sides of the pond like that?

We have a 1000 gal. pond that we dug for 5 ducks , 1 goose and approx. 30 goldfish that we dug last fall and we have been having problems with it since it thawed out. So we put in a filtration system. I got a Laguna 1400 flter with a UV light and an aerator. Not enough...was having major green water and sludge problems so about 1 month ago I started using Green Clean algecide and Microbe Lift PL. Green Clean killed all the algae so the water is clearer but the dead algae settled on the bottom and now the water appears brown. I am hoping that the bacteria from Microbe Lift will take care of this. Believe it or not, the fish are still alive and reproduced over the winter so that is a good sign. It will be a slow process and as long as I allow the ducks in the pond, the water will never be completely clear, but I am optimistic that this will work. We built this set up for them and they love to play in it. Just big enough for them to dive.

One thing, not all algecides are equal and safe for waterfowl. The ad for Green Clean read that once diluted in water, it is non-harmful to animals. I purchased all my stuff from Webb's Water Gardens.

The liner was 10x15

I was confident of my build and since it was just under 7x12 and not 18" deep everywhere, I figured it should be good. It was. I didn't have much waste to cut off for the liner.

You did a great job. It looks wonderful and your ducks seem to really enjoy it.
