We set up a area for our 6 Pekin ducks, and 2 mallards. We have a inground pool set up so that the ground is sloaped so when I pull the plug at the bottom it drains into the pee gravel and out the tile in the ground. (I have a husband who does field tile for farmers.) The set up is this...
Two kiddie plastic pools.
They fit together one inside the other...the bottom one is to keep the shape of the dirt and has a large hole cut out of the floor. The top one has a drain plug placed into the floor. This is for draining. The plug is placed over the hole in the bottom pool. After draining much of the water out of the top pool it's then lifted out and sprayed out of all that poo and mud.

With the set up I have one main question. How often should the water be changed? After just two days the water is very muddy and full of nasties.

I have been changing the pool every other day. I takes me about 20 minutes to drain the water then rinse out the pool.

Daily I also give them a water feeder of one gallon and fill another bucket of water for them to dip their heads under. I think this is more than adiquate for any duck.

I think that is a fine set up. I would keep changing the water every other day. I know it is hard, I have to do it also. You can look into a water filter. I am going to put one in my pond very soon. Wifezilla knows the website on how to build one that you don't have to clean and take care of.

Biofilters are the way to go. Click on the link in my signature. I haven't updated in a while, but I am still using my skippy filter. I started adding plants to the filter trays already. The ducks don't get to use that pond much because of the hawks and currently have a kiddie pool. It is a beat up hand me down. Once I get them a new pool I will add a biofilter to it just like the pond set up. Just need to watch craigslist for a cheap new pump
