Hello, bad thing happening here. First I have hatched hundreds of eggs. A couple times during all those eggs I had to step in & assist. I've never lost a chick even the couple times I had to step in. Also, I have never hatched a duck.
I had a duck start to pip a hole in the egg a couple days early. I left it alone. Last night the duck had successfully unzipped half of the egg. It's beak with sticking out and I could see the entire top of the duck yet it was stuck.
I figured to leave it alone which is always best. This morning I woke to see the membrane was drying like plastic trapping the duck inside. I took tiny scissors and cut away a couple strands of membrane that were holding the duck inside the egg. It finally got itself free from the egg. However, a huge yolk sack is still attached. Not a small one. A little full. I mean a big round full yolk sack.
The water in the bottom of the incubator is stained red. I believe this duck came a little early. The yolk sack is now stuck to the plastic incubator tray. Duck is alive and I can see it's heartbeat. It just doesn't look good to me. I've already accepted what's probably going to happen.
Boy, those duck shells are thick.. The reason I believe it's early is there's another duck egg next to it and the duck is inside tapping away but still not out yet. Anything I can do to help this preemie?
