Duck Release Pond

Any time you set domestic ducks "loose" on a pond with zero predator protection, they WILL be killed.
And you have no way to tell what is even IN the pond - like snapping turtles - that will kill your ducks. Plus a stagnant pond covered in algae is a prime source of botulism and other diseases.
Please find your ducks a PROPER home with an EXPERIENCED duck owner and don't ever get anymore.

So very true!

My ducks are going to live a.wonderful and happy life on the pond, I really believe that all to often those who are wanting more ducks are hoarders, and the birds live in horrible sordid confinement when in the posession of a hoarder. So my excess birds will go to a beautiful private pond where they will have a smorgesboard of wonderful things to eat; seeds, berries, polywogs, minnows, frogs and a year round abundance of algae that is a complete food, 100% nutritious. They have a private pond to go to and it is 100% legal and ethical for them to live in freedom and happiness on the pond. Of course they may one day get taken by a predator, but for a million years, a body of water has been a place of safety for waterfowl, so they have a good chance of living a long happy life on a pond. The worst thing I could imagine for my dear wonderful excess birds would be to fall into a duck hoarders little hands and live in squaler somewhere while the hoarder was under the false illusion that they were saving the duck from living the pond life. :D

Honestly people if he was told it was a private pond and the owners were saying they would take care of the ducks I would say it's pretty ridiculous for you to tell him he needs to stop having ducks. You seriously think it's worse for them to get taken by predators than get killed by you? What do you think the actual difference is exactly? They end up dead either way. Just a meal for wildlife instead of a meal for you. Now obviously releasing them on public ponds with no one caring for them is wrong and illegal (people do it here and it pisses me off) but there is nothing wrong with letting ducks loose on a private pond imo.

The pond pictured in the first post is not owned by his friend.

Oh my! I had forgotten what a beautiful pond my ducks got to live on! Unfortunately they disappeared after a few months, not sure what happened, I suspect an owl. They certainly had a wonderful happy life while they were here, you can see the terrific algae blooom on the surface, and there is no danger of botulism as this pond has a running water fresh water entry and a continuous discharge so it never becomes stagnant. Since this photo was taken this pond has been dredged and all the cattails removed, think I'll throw some floating docks out there for the ducks. Will walk out there and get some new photos of this pond, will be right back. ;)

Ya I realize that. But he already posted saying he won't release them there if it's not private...sooo my point still stands.
Quote: The last place he released his Call Ducks didn't look like private property, and that was posted just two months ago.
