Hi Everyone!
It been awhile since I have been on.
This is the first time I have had a duck. Heres the story.
Today on the way to work I was at a four way stop. There was this duckling all by its self on the side of the road near the storm drain about to fall in. I got out and saved it from possibly dying today. For the road it was on is heavily traveled and the duck would have more than likely to get ran over. Once I had saved him I look around in the near by ditch to see if the parents were around. They weren't not wanting to leave it to die I took him home.
That is the story and I'm sticking to it. But I am not sure on how to raise him. I have raised chickens and things but not ducks.
So my main questions are
1. what to feed it.
2. Does it need a heat lamp?
3. Type of duck?
Also any other important info or tips that I may need? Also it can't be more than a week old.
Heres A picture. It may help.

Thanks guys!

I just got a care sheet from a Holderreads pick up, I'll scan it for you. It'll take a couple of minutes.

It's a baby mallard

Is there any way you can pick it up a buddy at your local feed store?

If not, get a feather duster and a mirror and attach them to the side of your brooder. The duckling will snuggle up to the duster like it is mom and the mirror gives it some "flock mates". Click on my double decker brooder thread in my signature to see the one I made.

I hope this works. If you can't get it large enough, let me know, I'll send it as an email. Looks like a Mallard.

I cut off, I'll send an email.

Never mind, the text is all there.... Computer Challenged, right here! LOL. Let me know if it works.

hey thanks guys. It means a lot. But a feather duster and mirror should be good now. The insert was very helpful. I'm going to be going to the store here in a little bit to pick up some fresh supplies. Thank you for the help. I'll be sure to keep you guys up dated. By the way it said something about slick surfaces arent good? Cause right now I have it in a old fish tank and it seems to be doing just fine. Should i change it or is it something i really shouldnt worry about?

Put down a towel or something on the bottom. Slick surfaces can cause problems with their legs. I'm glad you were able to read it, the text was pretty small. Keep us posted, sure is a cute little thing.

he just needs some traction or his legs will start to spraddle, you could put an old towel in there and that'd be fine. Aspen shavings are good too - pretty sure pine or cedar shavings irritate their respiratory systems. Puppy pee pads work well.

he looks really calm on your hand! you did a really nice thing to take him
