Duck Run Bedding

Are the wood pellets for stoves the same thing, Debbie?
No, not the same thing.

My understanding is you can use the wood pellets for stoves for the chickens, but cannot use horse bedding pellets for pellet stoves. My guess would be the pine bedding would burn faster than the stove pellets but there maybe are more issues I'm not aware of.

Also, you'd most likely have to use the plain ones, not ones that are smoked or infused with flavors.

If we got rid of our pellet grill and had a bag of plain ones left over, I'd dump those in the coop but wouldn't buy them for it as they're more expensive.

I don't think anyone carries the litter ones around here, but I may try the wood stove pellets. They aren't that expensive here, about the same as a bale of straw.

Thank you!

Just got done filling up the run with leaves! I figured why not use leaves from my trees instead. It’s free!

Ooh...I would love to know how that works for you and if anyone has tried it w ducks? My last flock I lived on the mainland and had a pine forest on one side of my property. Pine needles are great for ducks! Can't speak for chickens.
I'll keep the thread updated on how the leaves hold up! I have no doubt others have used leaves for their ducks.
Pine needles sounds great for ducks. I'm sure they would work well for chickens too.
