A friend of mine has a duckwho went broody. None of the eggs are fertile. They dont have a drake. She switched the eggs out for a chiken egg. Will her duck raise the chick or does she need to hand raise the chicks?

i think she would do ok. Just watch to make sure she doesn't encourage them go swimming., Keep an eye on her around the 21 day mark to make sure she accepts the chicks as her own. Good luck with them.

That is going to be a neat thing I wish I could experience myself. Ducks will set on and hatch chicken eggs, and vice versa, but I've heard the results can be hilarious (for us as humans).

If that duck hatches a chicken egg, she's probably going to accept it very lovingly and try to teach it to go for a bath, because that's what ducks (waterfowl) do. Chickens mostly don't like a water bath from what I hear. I'm not allowed to have chickens.

Please keep us posted on this. I'd love to hear what happens with the vice versa of the chickens hatching ducks thing. I've heard stories of chickens hatching ducks and considering them their own "children," then the chickens completely freaking out when the ducklings jump in some nearby water as ducks instinctively do.
