I have a duck sitting on two eggs that are a week past due hatching. She started out with a bunch of eggs but there are only two eggs left. Dogs or something have gotten the rest. Anyway, I wonder if I should take the last two out of her nest when she leaves for her break. I would put new eggs under her if I knew someone that had fertilized duck eggs but I don't.
Some advice of what to do would be helpful. I feel sorry for her. Our other female duck hatched 13 babies and they are happily swimming in the pond with her.

Did u candle the eggs to see what's going on with them??? Are u sure they are a week past due??? What state do u live in, I have fertile duck eggs.

I agree Candle them. The broody duck should be in a calm dark place away from reach of Predators/Dogs.If she has been sitting for Five weeks already i wouldn't have her sit any longer as her health may start to decline rapidly and may even die. Also whats your Male to Female Ratio?

No, I did not candle the eggs. I would hesitate to disturb her since she is not very tame. I live in Ohio but we really don't need any more ducks, I am just feeling sorry for her . I guess if I had eggs handy I would try to put more under her. I don't know how long she would sit on eggs before she gives up the project.
I purchased six ducks from TSC last year. We lost one last winter due to a predator getting it. Two females and three roosters made it through the winter. We have a fountain on the pond so a portion of the water does not freeze.
Each fall I have about 30 Mallards visit our pond on their way to warmer places. They stay around until it gets cold and then they move on. I feed them all corn until they move on.

Candle the eggs and if they are no good remove the Hen from the nest and destroy it. It's not good for a Hen to remain broody any longer than needed. You might have to block off the nesting site for a few days.
