Duck Starter Feed ???

I know this is an older thread but everyone on here seems quite knowledgable about the Niacin that ducks need. I found Duck and Goose starter crumbles, and it doesnt say anything about niacin on it. Should I be giving them niacin as well or should the duck starter include it? Thank you!

Duck starter should have it already. If you look at that list of gobbledegook in the ingredient list, most of those are vitamins. They are just not identified the same ( simple) way as we think of vitamins.

If you are really concerned, you can sit down with google and look up each and every one of those additives to learn what is in the feed and what isn't. Really. It's doable. I've done it several times. I want to know what my birds and dogs are eating, and I did it again with dry cat food, comparing it to poultry food, to verify that it was safe to feed the dry cat food to my ducks.

I think that Dumor offers 2 kinds, Medicated and unmedicated. Best thing to do is read the labels and read the ingredients. When in doubt, call your store and ask them, they will be the most familiar with their product.

Heck of a first post.....PANICKING!!

We have had our two new little ducklings on MannaPro Medicated Chick Starter for our first 5 days with them.

I am guessing we should change immediately to something else. Should we be worried?

These lil guys are growing like crazy, this was last Saturday, they are nearly as tall as the water bottle today....

Complete duck rookies. :(

PS, just read in another thread that if the medication is Amprolium, then it is fine (What do ducks eat, thread, post #9 by Speceider)

That is the medication in our feed...

....but still panicking just a bit, if we have done any harm.

Will be looking for duck specific food tomorrow.

plain unmedicated chick starter should work fine or if you have an all flock or flockraiser type feed available that would work to.

my ducklings get Nutrena's naturewise meatbird crumbles at 22% protein and they i buy a bag of the store own brand of all purpose poultry crumbles at 16% and mix them 50/50 to make a feed thats 19% protein. i mix to have a better protein level as 22% seem pretty high(high for non meat/game birds) and 16% seem low for growing babies...so i mix to get a protein level i like and its work great
