My duckling is about two days old and it seem like it's sort of clicking when it's breathing. He also has a problem with his legs, like he can't stand up correctly. If this helps, he hatched with a partially absorbed yolk sac, but it now just looks like a little stump. I would appreciate any help. This is my ONLY duck!!! Is there anything I can do for this little guy, or should I just wait and see what happens…?

I'd get some poultry vitamins and start giving them to your duckling does the stump look like it's healed good/ no runny discharge coming from it? now back to vitamins, if you have a TSC close get Poultry Nutri drench it can be given straight[follow directions on bottle] making sure not to squirt down it's throat too easy to get it into his lungs, but just inside the bill. you can also mix with it's water. then start giving your duckling some Brewers yeast sprinkled daily on his feed, this will help with any niacin dif they may get from eatoing chick starter if that's what you have them on. Place a non breakable mirror in the ducklings brooder along with a stuffed animal for cuddling. Are you going to try and find another duckling for yours/ they do so much better if they have one of their own. Please let us know how it's doing.

Thanks! The stump looks like it's drying up and I can't really see it through his feathers. I should also add something- About two days ago, my duck was very energetic. He was running around and following me, and he was stumbling a bit when he ran and he flipped onto his back a lot, but he seemed pretty lively. Now he seems really sleepy. He can't really keep his head up and he keeps it between his legs. We started giving him electrolytes yesterday. I don't know if this means he's getting worse, or if he's just sleepy for no reason…? Any help on this would also be appreciated. Again, thanks a lot for your advice!

Maybe he over did, electrolytes are good does it also have vitamins in it, Niacin deficiency is a common problem with ducklings fed chick starter, not enough in their for ducklings, so check to see if these electrolytes have B3 or niacin [same thing just may say one or the other. But if it doesn't say then get some Brewers yeast and sprinkle about a teaspoon full onto his feed daily. At TSC you can get a product called Nutri drench that has Niacin in it and is really helpful with weak ducklings.

He's soooo much better! We stopped giving him the electrolytes because it looked like he was getting worse, so we gave him poly vi-sol, baby medicine, and now he looks a lot better. He's walking and standing up and he's much more lively. The stump is also gone. Thanks for all your help!
