Lately my six month old Buff has stopped laying and stays in the coop and covering herself with bedding. When she goes outsie she will also throw leaves and grass behind her as she walks, like she stills wants the cocoon around her.

any thoughts on what this means/ what I should do?

Are you sure she's not just trying to bathe in the leaves/bedding? Ducks will do that when they want to bathe but aren't in the water, they still do the bathing behavior. Looks pretty hysterical if you ask me. ;)

Other than that, I have no idea! What an odd behavior. Any chance you could post a video of her doing it?

I have absolutely no idea on my end but I second the idea of a video. That's gotta be adorable albeit concerning.

I've seen my ducks and even my chickens and geese do this in their nest while laying toss bedding over their bodies. Have you felt her belly just to rule out there isn't an egg stuck?

Wobbles did this with kale. He still kind of does, actually...just "ptooey", over it goes! Is it similar to this?
