I think by "oral antibiotic" Amiga means antibiotic medicine that you will administer orally. That's the Duramycin, right Amiga? That you should be able to get at a farm store or a vet's office.

The Epsom Salt Soaks and iodine will go on the foot and leg.

If your duck has infection that has spread thru his system, then the Epsom Salt and iodine might not be enough. That is when you'd need to add the oral antibiotic. If I were to start a course of antibiotics, I would continue with the Epsom Salt and iodine, it would be sort of like if you had a bad scrape that got infected. A MD might prescribe you an oral antibiotic but they still would want you washing the wound and applying an antibiotic to the skin too. Like treating from the inside and from the outside too.

That leg looks like it might be swollen to me. But I'm not seeing your duck, so I suppose only you can make the decision whether or not treating it from the outside only is enough.

Yes oral means given by mouth . and I agree with HDF on the rest. it does look swollen so infection is in there. that's why we are rec. oral antibiotics at this point. they are pretty cheap and can be bought at most feed stores and TSC go by directions on package.

Like HollyDuckFarmer wrote, the Epsom salt and ointment are for the foot, I would get the duck to a vet if I could, and if not, I would go to the feed store or order online and get the duramycin and get started on that.

I do not use antibiotics lightly, but once an infection gets into the duck's bloodstream, it can become serious trouble, and for a few bucks and just a little effort, you can save the duck a lot of suffering.

That's a nice looking duck, seems to me he is just having a hard time of it from something that is fairly easy to treat.

Well yesterday I've started the the Epsom salt and the iodine okay well I'm going to tractor supply to buy food for my ducks so what kind should I get him
Are you getting an antibiotic? then go with Penicillin it can also be put into their water and is good for treating bumble infection and looks like this has gone into the joint. If they don't have Pen. then get the duramycin 10 it can also be added to water. When you get back let us know which one you got and I'll give dosage since I have a med chart. Other wise If you can get an all flock feed I like it because it can be feed from hatch till end of their lives with out having to change feeds, I know the closest TSC to us carries Purina Flock Raiser They may have other brands too probably depends on location.
