Duck trouble

Yea I know yea I'm positive about the surgery the first time I cut him I did all my research and got information before I even did anything to him yea but I just cut a little x on him and not to deep so I won't hit his bone and then pinch a tiny bit then I use tweezers to pull all the gunk out but on his other foot the swelling went down alot and he tries to stand on that one the most

Well he finished all his antibiotics already but I'm going to vet tomorrow to get some more just in case he needs them

Ask the Vet to give you Baytril. This is hardcore antibiotic and will kick the infection hard. No idea what the cost is, but it can't be much more than treating with what you have been using over and over. At least ask and see what the difference would be. Baytril should clear this up, period. No more chancing secondary infections by cutting and cleaning the joints. Plus it should kill any that have gotten into the bone tissue, if it has. How is the temperature of the legs? Warm? Normal?

Okay I'll ask for it because the vet told If I need amoxicillin she will give me the a second refill for free and I'll keep it just in case and if I give him baytril I wouldn't need to give him the knife and also how would the gunk come out? Also his legs feel warm

Yeah, you need the Baytril...Look, if a scab forms, it should be fine to pull it off and get anything right underneath it. Don't go digging. Make sure everything that is going to be used is sterile and spotlessly clean. When it gets this bad, the risk of spreading the infection to more tissue is way too high to take the chance with. Pull the scab, I might even try some topical peroxide after doing so, wipe clean and then dry. Then apply the iodine. You also need to give this guy regular swimming time, feet off the bottom of where ever you can do it. Warm water. Poultry vitamins wouldn't be amiss right now either, he can use any help he can get to fight this off.

One thing I need to mention, Baytril and it's human equivelant, Cipro can cause problems with joints and ligaments. Still I think if your duck is to be saved, it needs be done. You need to make the Vet understand this is a last ditch effort and that this bird is not ever going to enter the food chain. He is a pet forever. If you cannot get the Vet to give you the Baytril, you will need to go to TSC or another farm supply store and get your antibiotics there. You may also want to think about giving it with injection as well. I would recommend either Tylan 200 or if you can get it, Lincomycin. Same family as the Baytril, but not as strong.
