My duck's wings stuck out like paddles. I read up on it, and we wrapped our duck's wings to her body for a week. I was so hoping this would correct the problem, but her wings still stick out and one turns over some. Is there anything I can do to correct the problem??? I think she is about 3 mos. old. I was feeding her chick starter, then Layer pellets and some cracked corn. I have read that too much protein can cause this??? I feel terrible about this!! I bought some Flock Raiser and it has 20% protein!!! The layer pellets had only 16%! I am not sure what to do--but I am not letting her have any corn for now!!

Sometimes it's not anything you did it can also be genetic, but layer shouldn't be fed till they are laying[too much calcium] and corn is a starch [empty calories] but I have always used Flock Raiser along with getting my ducklings outside at an early age, mainly because they are with their mamas and haven't ever had Angel wing. They say once their blood feathers come in it's almost impossible to correct it, but hey try again, you can also clip back a portion of the feathers too to help keep her from catching them on something, just be careful not to clip into quick where the blood is. Just normal wing clipping if not sure how to do it there are sites on line that show you how. But I'd still try to wrap again for a week,. other than the way it looks she can still have a normal life.

Thank you for your comments! I appreciate them!! I have my ducks and hens together, free ranging so besides their food, the ducks eat the layer feed too! Maybe I need to keep my one duck separated, and only on Flock Raiser???

I have laying hens and ducks that lay and everyone eats the same thing Flock Raiser, I just sit out Oyster shell for the added calcium for the egg layers. and all my flock free ranges too. Good luck and I'd try again with wrapping if it doesn't work then clip her wing feathers so she doesn't catch them on things.
