Greetings,

One of my blue swedish ducks has developed a limp, but I'm not really sure why. I've checked him for bumble foot and broken bones in his flipper, but I found nothing. Any thoughts on why he might have a limp?

Thanks

Ducks often develop soft tissue trauma (strains, sprains) due to overmating from males, tripping over objects, or getting their feet in objects - this is a common problem, especially with larger breeds, and will usually resolve over a few weeks. The best treatment implemented would be reducing movement, and correcting any factors that are predisposing the duck to trauma( such as the ones mentioned above).

If there is noticeable swelling, and inflammation an NSAID, such as aspirin will prove helpful. The dose for ducks is 5mg per kilogram of weight. Plenty of bathing time during healing will allow the duck to relieve the weight off its leg.
