How does your drake hold his leg when standing and laying and trying to walk? just curious since the pics in the link subhanalah gave the chicks look like the leg is twisted and out to the back like they can't bend it.

I think those are extreme cases of chick's that got it when they were still growing. This guy is full grown already (right?)

I believe so, just never seen this till just recently and wondering if this one is caused from over activity because i'm pretty sure the OP said he had been chasing the ducks around and Pekins are known for leg problems anyway. I'll have to go back and read the beginning sometimes I get threads mixed up. Yep same duck I thought it was. reading first post.

He's 13 months old. He generally holds his leg at that angle in the photos I posted when sitting or swimming, but when he tries to walk he'll extend it a little more to touch the ground. I haven't seen him extend it like the chicks in those pictures.

Miss Lydia, my best guess would be over activity, because I'd seen him literally running top speed after the girls many times. Like I said before, the only other thing I can think of would be the ramp going into the pen, and they don't really go on there until it's bedtime, so that seems unlikely to me.

It's so hard to know for sure with out a diagnosis I know vets are extremely expensive but you might try the vet at First State Vet on line I think they charge for consultation but if you can show a pic he may I believe that's the place or even Jeffers live stock there maybe someone there who can help. I'm going to go look up First state vet and see if that's the one.

The website said there's a $25 phone consultation, but I wonder how much help any vet could be without seeing the injury in person.

I think this may be something that needs a vet? I hope you can do something for him instead of being faced with a very hard task/decision.

Photos may be enough, I thought you could actually send an email and then send photos along. I've never used it but have heard good reviews. But understand about expense of a vet.
